Humane Letters 9
This course marks the beginning of the Eagle Ridge Academy Upper School Humanities program. Starting with a yearlong exploration of Greco-Roman Antiquity as freshmen, students will continue their examination of the Great Books of the Western Tradition during their sophomore, junior, and senior years at ERA. Throughout the ninth grade class, we will explore the roots of classical literature by discussing the works of Homer as well as texts written during the Golden Age of Athens, in addition to studying the age of Rome and surveying the philosophy, history, and politics of Roman civilization.
As with each part of the Humanities program, this class is a combination of Language Arts and Social Studies coursework and will be conducted primarily through Socratic Seminar and class discussion of the readings assigned.
